First Creek Canyon Trail | Tales from the Trails

First Creek Canyon Trail | Outdoor Nevada Presents Tales from the Trails
SEASON 1: EPISODE 1 | 9/23/2023
Located in the Red Rock Recreational Area, First Creek Canyon is an easy to moderate hike. It starts off in an open desert landscape, and just off in the distance, sits the very popular Red Rock Scenic loop.
There are several trails along State Route 159 or Charleston Blvd. This area is public land and managed by the Bureau of Land Management. The trail is mapped at 2 miles, so round trip is 4 miles. A hike like this, with a break or two will take the average person 3 hours. The trail is a mix of sandy and rocky.
As this hike continues, hikers will start to feel the gradual elevation change. They’ll also start to see the landscape begin its shift and hear the sound of water. First Creek Canyon Trail ends with a small pond, which usually has water during the winter and spring.
Cory Lange from the Bureau of Land Management says visitors to the pond will see all kinds of wildlife at the watering hole. There might also be the two kinds of frogs native to the Red Rock area - red spotted toad and Baja California tree frog.
Explore Nevada’s ideal climate and varied environments that provide inspiration for exciting outdoor adventures.
