WHAT:
Vegas PBS will host a free community event, Flavors of the Far East with Chef Marcus Samuelsson, celebrity chef and host of No Passport Required. The celebrated culinary television show, featured on Vegas PBS, is now in its second season. In 2019, Chef Samuelsson visited local restaurants to discover the great traditions and cuisine of the Chinese-American community in Las Vegas. The event will include a tasting of some the Chinese-American cuisine featured in the show, as well as a screening of various clips from the Las Vegas episode. Nevada Week host Kipp Ortenburger will also lead a Q&A session with Chef Samuelsson, to talk about the growth of the Chinese-American community in Las Vegas. This event is free to the public and open to all ages. RSVP is required. Visit vegaspbs.org/spotlight-series to reserve a spot.
The Flavors of the Far East event will feature tastings from various local restaurants including Chengdu Taste, Niu-Gu Restaurant, ShangHai Taste, Fat Choy, Shang Artisan Noodle, Flock & Fowl, Chubby Cattle and Tea & Whisk.
This event will be hosted in partnership with the Asian Community Development Council and is made possible by our generous sponsors including Jaguar Land Rover Las Vegas and Dumont Communications.
No Passport Required is a series that celebrates the rich ethnic diversity of the United States. Traveling all across the country, from New York City to Los Angeles, Chef Marcus Samuelsson embarks on an inspiring journey that illuminates how American food and culture is built from a wide range of immigrant traditions and cuisine. Marcus Samuelsson, celebrity chef and restaurateur, has built a reputation as a world-renowned chef, having served as guest chef for President Obama’s first state dinner and opening his own restaurant in Harlem, the Red Rooster. He has appeared in programs on CNN, MSNBC, NPR and more.
