What's Next — A Message About the Rescissions Package

The U.S. Congress has passed the Rescissions Package, cutting over $1 billion of previously approved funding for public broadcasting over the next two years.

This was not the outcome we were hoping for. Despite millions of Americans advocating for public broadcasting, this important service will now face a difficult road in the coming years.

I want to thank our supporters in Southern Nevada and beyond who spoke up in defense of free and accessible public media. Your hard work is deeply appreciated and inspiring. I want to also express gratitude to Nevada’s Representatives and Senators, all of whom firmly stood by us.

Here’s what the passage of the Rescissions Package means for Vegas PBS: We will lose $3.8 million in anticipated revenue for the next two years. This is funding that went towards PBS KIDS shows, early childhood education services, local storytelling and emergency alerts. There will be a significant financial shortfall in FY26 and FY27.

At this moment, I think many people are asking, “What now?”

Vegas PBS Here for Las Vegas. Always.

Well, let’s think about why Vegas PBS has mattered so much to our community.

In Southern Nevada, 74% of Pre-K children lack access to licensed early education. Through PBS KIDS shows, games and workshops at community centers and libraries around the valley, those children are provided free and high-quality educational content that prepares them for lifelong learning.

After the Great Recession, we began providing Workforce Education to help Southern Nevadans find meaningful careers in a new and diversifying economy. I think of one student who went from working two jobs and living paycheck-to-paycheck to finding a meaningful career in medical billing that allows her financial freedom.

Vegas PBS has the strongest broadcast signal in all of Nevada. During times of crisis, we are often the only broadcaster that reaches our region’s remote communities.

This is the work we have done for over 55 years… and this is the work we will continue to do.

It will be harder without federal funding. But we are more committed than ever to advancing local storytelling, education services, workforce development and supporting the Clark County School District. Families, teachers, job seekers and viewers will be able to count on us just as they have for generations.

We’ll need your help. Whether it’s through a donation, attending our events, or just being a viewer, you can make a difference. Together, we’ll build an informed and engaged Southern Nevada.

Thank you for supporting Vegas PBS.
