Vegas PBS offers high quality drama throughout the year, including The Forsytes, premiering on Sunday, March 22, and Downton Abbey, returning as a Passport exclusive this March. Great Performances lets you keep up with theater staged in New York City or London from the comfort of your home. While there is so much excellent drama available on the screen, whether filmed as a live performance or made for the screen, you may also hunger for in-person experiences.

Las Vegas is renowned for being the entertainment capital of the world. There are high-quality shows with top-notch performers available every night of the week. Many of these shows are produced by local theater companies who work with professionally trained actors. While it’s always fun to watch a show on The Strip, it’s great to support local.

Here are a few options for those of you seeking to expand your repertoire beyond the broadcast:

The Smith Center offers the Toyota Broadway Las Vegas® series, bringing in popular Broadway musicals on tour. Along with Broadway musicals, The Smith Center also offers children’s performances such as "Peppa Pig: My First Concert," as well as dance and live music at its venues.

Just down the street from Vegas PBS is the Legacy Theatre of Excellence, the new home of Broadway in the HOOD, a company that’s focused on telling diverse stories, making theater more diversely represented and bringing the joy of drama to all.

Want something a bit edgier? Located in the Arts District, Majestic Repertory Theatre is known for original parody musicals based on cult classic films from the 1990s. Additionally, they produce immersive theater experiences where audiences can feel as though they are part of the production.

Not a fan of musicals? Don’t worry. There are plenty of other options for those of you who love drama. Check out A Public Fit’s season of plays. This theater company programs plays written by some of American and British theater’s most sophisticated playwrights and also showcases new, local playwrights and a storytelling series.

If you’re into the Shakespeare in the Park performances you see on Great Performances, you need to attend Nevada Shakespeare Festival’s offerings. They stage Shakespeare’s plays with a modern approach while also respecting the lyrical tradition of the Bard.

Another theater company in the Arts District is Vegas Theatre Company, which continues to expand its programming with the intention of becoming a regional theater. Their offerings include cabaret, solo shows, fringe festival performances and local world premieres.

If that isn’t enough, you’ll soon be able to join Vegas PBS for in-person screenings of some of your favorite dramas, cozy mysteries and procedurals! We’re preparing to launch a season of screenings at The Library District. Keep your eyes peeled on our social media profiles and in the SOURCE Magazine, and on our Community page for more information on how to attend!
