Celebrating the Life of Elaine Wynn (1942-2025)

Elaine Wynn

Vegas PBS joins our community in mourning the loss of public education advocate Elaine Wynn, who passed away at age 82 on April 15, 2025.

Wynn was the namesake of Elaine Wynn Elementary School, part of the Clark County School District. She also served as the president of the Nevada State Board of Education twice, in 2013 and 2015.

Recognized as a savvy businesswoman through her work an executive and casino operator — having co-founded Mirage Resorts in 1975 and Wynn Resorts in 2000 — Wynn also expressed her generosity through the Elaine P. Wynn & Family Foundation as well as the After-School All-Stars and Communities in Schools organizations.

“Elaine Wynn was a force of nature, a philanthropist, a gaming and entertainment pioneer, and a mentor. As a philanthropist, she rallied us around students through non-profit organizations that continue empowering thousands of students to thrive in school and life," said CCSD Superintendent Jhone Ebert in a statement.

We honor her remarkable legacy and offer our sincere condolences to her family. May her memory continue to inspire and guide us all.
