LAS VEGAS, NV —Student Spotlight returns for its fifth season on Monday, September 8 on Vegas PBS. New episodes will premiere on Vegas PBS at 7:30 p.m. on the first Monday of each month. Season 5 will be available to stream for free on the PBS App and at vegaspbs.org/studentspotlight, along with all previous episodes.
In the season premiere, viewers will get to explore Southern Nevada’s newest Career and Technical Academy, meet a speech pathologist who has been with the Clark County School District for 50 years, go behind-the-scenes of the district’s debut podcast, learn how the Hope Squad allows students to help students at Coronado High School, and hear from a middle school science teacher who returned from a summer research trip to the Galapagos Islands.
As the nation’s fifth-largest school district, Clark County School District (CCSD) educates nearly two-thirds of Nevada’s students. Focused on academic achievement and student well-being, CCSD offers a variety of programs like Career and Technical Academies and Advanced Placement to guide students towards meaningful paths after graduation.
“As a proud CCSD graduate, it is an honor to recognize the achievements of our students, teachers, and staff,” saysStudent Spotlight host Maria Silva. “Every episode is a chance to shine a light on the inspiring stories in our schools and introduce viewers to the people helping shape the future of Southern Nevada.”
The series has been nominated twice for a Pacific Southwest Region EMMY® Award and has previously featured how schools participate in Nevada Reading Week, students who are members of Superintendent’s Advisory Council and there was even a “Student Takeover” episode. Every year, Student Spotlight features performing arts groups (such as choir, jazz ensemble and mariachi) in a holiday special.
Vegas PBS and CCSD have been partners for over 55 years. The partnership has helped both entities provide Southern Nevada with a technologically-advanced and engaging educational experience.
All episodes for Student Spotlight are available to stream for free on the PBS App and at vegaspbs.org/studentspotlight. An interactive map that list stories by school location can also be found at vegaspbs.org/studentspotlight.
