Vegas PBS: Ali Las Vegas Legacy

LAS VEGAS, NV – On September 10, 2021, Vegas PBS will premiere Ali: Las Vegas Legacy, a five-part digital series about Muhammad Ali’s impact and influence on Las Vegas. This Vegas PBS Original series is a local digital companion series to a new Ken Burns documentary about the heavyweight champion, Muhammad Ali, which will air on Vegas PBS Channel 10 starting September 19, 2021 at 8 p.m.

An international icon, Ali had a profound impact on the Las Vegas community. Ali: Las Vegas Legacy recognizes how “The Greatest” helped pave the way for long-lasting changes in the boxing community in Sin City. The episode topics explore a brief history of boxing in Nevada, the economic impact of boxing on gaming and tourism, and the growing footprint of the sport among youth in our local neighborhoods. Featured interviewees include Muhammad Ali’s former promoter and attorney Robert Arum, Nevada Boxing Hall of Fame Referee Richard Steele, former Nevada Athletic Commission Chairman Sig Rogich and more. The series will be available exclusively on Vegas PBS’ website at vegaspbs.org/ali or on the Vegas PBS YouTube channel.

“Our viewers know us for great national programs, like NOVA and American Experience, but we’re also here to document the culture and history of Las Vegas,” said Cyndy Robbins, Director of Content at Vegas PBS. “Digital series like Ali: Las Vegas Legacy show how our local story is reflective of the entire American narrative.”

Ken Burns, renowned for various documentaries about American history, like The Civil War, Baseball, Country Music and Hemingway, now tackles the story of the professional boxer, activist and icon. For Muhammad Ali, he has joined forces with his daughter and fellow filmmaker, Sarah Burns, and her husband, David McMahon. Over the course of four episodes, Muhammad Ali will cast a new light on one of the most important figures of the 20th century, demonstrating how Ali’s insistence on being himself inspired an entire generation.

Muhammad Ali will air on Vegas PBS Channel 10, starting on Sunday, September 19 through Wednesday, September 22 at 8 p.m. Viewers can also binge all four episodes with Vegas PBS Passport. For more information, please visit vegaspbs.org/ali
