Vegas PBS Wins Three Emmy® Awards
Documentary “African Americans: The Las Vegas Experience” and series “Outdoor Nevada” are among 2018 award winners

Vegas PBS has received three Emmys at the 2018 Pacific Southwest Emmy Awards ceremony. The awards celebrate excellence in television in the region. Winners were announced on Saturday, June 16, 2018, at the ceremony in Rancho Mirage, California.

Vegas PBS’ historical documentary “African Americans: The Las Vegas Experience” and state exploration series “Outdoor Nevada” earned the following awards:
  • Historical/Cultural – Program/Special: “African Americans: The Las Vegas Experience,” Heather Caputo, Vegas PBS.
  • Editor – Program: “African Americans: The Las Vegas Experience,” Reginald Edwards, Vegas PBS.
  • Magazine – Program/Special: “Outdoor Nevada” – Episode “Shiny Lights and Bright Stars,” Fabian Ubben, John Burke, Sergio de Souza, Todd Hailstone, John Lloyd, John McClain, Hayley Etter, Dustin Hall, Jared Kash, Vegas PBS.

Vegas PBS earned additional nominations in Writers-Program for Heather Caputo for “African Americans,” Musical Composition/Arrangement for John Lloyd for the “Outdoor Nevada” episode “Wide Open Spaces,” and a second nomination in Historical/Cultural – Program/Special for the “Outdoor Nevada” episode “Common Ground.”

“We are honored to be recognized by our peers and the academy for our locally-produced programs,” said Vegas PBS’ Director of Production Services Kareem Hatcher. “We work hard to create a sense of place for Southern Nevadans by creating quality, thought-provoking programming. Winning these Emmys is a testament to the station’s work to reach that goal.”

The Pacific Southwest regional Emmy Awards have been a tradition since 1990. Winners are selected by the nearly 600 members of The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Pacific Southwest Chapter. Last year, Vegas PBS earned one nomination.
