Vegas PBS to Hold Documentary Screening and Fundraising Event
in Collaboration with the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health
Evening will include brain-healthy food prepared by award-winning chefs
LAS VEGAS — A new documentary that tells how a son’s love for his father led to Las Vegas becoming a global leader in the research and treatment of brain disease signals a new era of collaboration between Vegas PBS and the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.
The one-hour program, “Power of Love: The Story of Lou Ruvo and the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health” will premiere on Vegas PBS Channel 10 at 10 p.m. on Monday, November 5, with additional broadcasts during the month. November is National Alzheimer’s Disease Awareness Month and National Caregiver Month.
Vegas PBS and the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health will present a dinner and special screening of the documentary on November 1, 2018, from 6–8 p.m. at the Keep Memory Alive Event Center at 888 W. Bonneville Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89106. The event will serve as a fundraiser to support future health care-focused local programming by Vegas PBS.
The documentary takes viewers behind the curtain of the clinic, highlighting the true Las Vegas story of Larry Ruvo’s love for his father Lou, the well-known and longtime owner of the Venetian Ristorante, an iconic Las Vegas venue during the Rat Pack era.
The documentary follows Lou Ruvo’s diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease and his son Larry’s ongoing search for treatment and, hopefully, a cure. The documentary explores the clinic’s use of specialized research and advanced procedures intended to improve the quality of life for those suffering from brain disease and shows how the Cleveland Clinic is applying revolutionary research techniques and clinical trials toward the search for a cure.
Guests at the special screening event will enjoy specially created brain-healthy foods prepared by award-winning chefs Gustav E. Mauler, Mark Sandoval, Rick Moonen, Benoit Cornet, Roy Ellamar, Tal Ronnen and additional chefs not yet announced. Wine, spirits and other beverages are being provided compliments of event sponsor Southern Glazer’s Wine & Spirits of Nevada. The screening and discussion of “The Power of Love” documentary will follow dinner.
Seating is limited. Tickets can be secured with a donation of $250 per person at VegasPBS.org/tickets or by calling 702.737.7500. All ticket sales, sponsorships and donations will support Vegas PBS.
