Vegas PBS’ weekly public affairs program, Nevada Week, has received an Emmy nomination from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, Pacific Southwest Chapter, for the episode “The Battle Against Alzheimer’s.” In the nominated episode, host Kipp Ortenburger and a panel of experts discuss how close local researchers are to a cure for Alzheimer’s and the role citizen scientists and caregivers play toward fighting the neurodegenerative disease.

With nearly fifty thousand Nevadans currently living with Alzheimer’s, and that number expected to skyrocket over the next decade, Nevada Week hosted a panel of local experts to explore the issues surrounding the current realities of this disease in Nevada. The panelists included:

  • Jeffrey Cummings, Research Professor, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, School of Integrated Health Sciences
  • LeeAnn Mandarino, Program Manager, Education, Outreach and Advocacy, Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health
  • Dr. Jefferson Kinney, Founding Chair, University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Department of Brain Health
  • Kat Hartley, Caregiver and Project Manager, Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health

“On Nevada Week, we dive deep into issues impacting our state today and in the future,” said Kipp Ortenburger, host of Nevada Week. “We are honored to receive this Emmy nomination and are proud of the work we do to bring the latest and most important information to Nevadans week in and week out.”

Watch Nevada Week Fridays at 8 p.m. on Vegas PBS Channel 10.1 or watch all episodes, including the Emmy-nominated episode, at vegaspbs.org/nevada-week.
