Research shows that in the early years, a child’s brain is developing at a faster rate than it will at any other point in their life. The interactions that a child has with adult caregivers at this stage lay the foundation on which all later learning, behavior, and health build.
Bright by Text helps parents and caregivers make the most out of these interactions by illustrating fun and easy activities, providing positive parenting tips and resources, tips for aiding a child’s physical development, and much more. The program is proven to build nurturing caregiver-child relationships, and positively affect a child’s healthy development and school readiness.
The tips and resources offered through this service, are comprised of research-based content for children ages 0-8 from Bright by Text and its content partners including PBS KIDS, Vroom, and Sesame Street.
Parents and caregivers can enroll by texting the word “Shine” to 274448. They will receive two to five text messages per week, and messages will include a link to a landing page with more details, short modeling videos, and links to related resources. Text messages are available in English and Spanish.
In addition to expert content, Bright by Text includes messages about events and resources specific to the Southern Nevada community, like free museum days, health clinics, and preschool open enrollment periods.
The project is funded by the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB) as part of the Ready To Learn Community Collaboratives for Early Learning and Media program. The opportunity grows from a CPB-funded pilot led by Bright by Three and Rocky Mountain PBS.
“Vegas PBS is committed to using all emerging technologies to advance childhood education in the home, at childcare facilities and in schools,” said Dr. Niki Bates, Director of Educational Media for Vegas PBS. “This new method of delivering trusted PBS content and local enrichment activities will benefit all our partners and the parents and children we jointly serve.”
