Nevada Week In Person | M.J. Ivy

SEASON 1: EPISODE 28 | Airdate: 5/28/2022

Pastor M.J. Ivy leads Kinship Community Church in Las Vegas and strives to improve the lives of Southern Nevada youth through several unique roles, including as an athletics official.

Ivy was part of the Clark County School District’s Anti-Racism Inclusion and Diversity Task Force. He said the policy created by the task force was important to address some of the inequalities between students of color and white students, especially when it comes to discipline.

In 1994, Ivy became a basketball referee and has referred the sport at just about every level from young children through adults. He said he loves officiating the game because it brought him so much joy and opportunity when he played in high school and college.

Ivy says to be a good pastor you have to love people but he says ‘love’ is not just a word but an action. He said there are a lot of people who speak a lot of things but don’t put those words into action.
