A one-on-one interview with Southern Nevada Water Authority General Manager John Entsminger.

Nevada Week In Person | John Entsminger

The southwestern United States has been in a drought for more than two decades, which makes managing Southern Nevada’s water supply one of the most important and difficult jobs in our state.

The person who has been doing it for almost a decade is John Entsminger, the general manager of the Southern Nevada Water Authority.

Entsminger said he became interested in western water policy when he read a couple of books about the subject in the summer before he went to law school. He said water and the policies that guide its distribution around the West are foundational to how society works.

He said one of the most interesting parts of water policy in the Colorado River Basin is that it involves seven different states coming to the table with their own interests but having to compromise for the good of the whole region and the river.

And for those who were wondering, Entsminger doesn’t have a single blade of grass in his yard, but he does have a pool in his backyard.
