Through September 30: One Book, One Henderson

Henderson Libraries' One Book, One Henderson program aims to rally the community to all discuss the same book.

Its fifth year is now underway — and the 2026 book, "The Dark Maestro," is currently available at Henderson Library locations as well as accessible online. Written by Brendan Slocumb, who has worked as a public and private school music educator for more than 20 years, it tells a moving tale survival and perseverance with many twists and turns. 

A variety of programs inspired by the book include:

• August 25, 5–6 p.m. — Maestro in the Making: Instrument Petting Zoo at James I. Gibson Library
• August 29, 2–3 p.m. — Sip & Social for Adults Music Bingo! at Green Valley Library
• August 31, 5:30–6:30 p.m. — Music Therapy Workshop at James I. Gibson Library
• September 9, 5:30–6:30 p.m. — An Evening with Strings at Paseo Verde Library
• September 12, 10 a.m. –1 p.m. — Author Conversation & Signing at Henderson Multigenerational Center, adjacent to the Paseo Verde Library 
  Copies of the book will be available for purchase for the author to sign, or you may bring your own.
• September 15, 1–2 p.m. — Performance by CSN Jazz at Green Valley Library
• September 23, 5:30–6:30 p.m. — Listening Like a Maestro
• September 30, 5:30–6:30 p.m. — Stories in Song with UNLV Opera
