EMAIL SUBJECT LINE: Constituent Support for Public Media (Vegas PBS)

MESSAGE:

I am pleased to write to you as a constituent and supporter of Vegas PBS. I want to thank you for your continued advocacy in support of public television.  It’s reassuring to know that you always champion the cause and join all Nevada Senate and House delegates in unanimous support — not only for Vegas PBS but for all public media. It’s important that we can all stand together when one of America’s most vital institutions is under threat.

As you know there are several active measures to defund and undermine the good work our local public media stations — like Vegas PBS — do in our community. The most recent threats focus on defunding the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Here in Southern Nevada, federal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting is essential for Vegas PBS to continue to deliver public services my community depends on. For example, our rural neighbors who lack internet or cell coverage depend on emergency alerts and news coverage broadcasts over Vegas PBS’s airwaves. Many families who are pinched to afford broadband and streaming services also rely on Vegas PBS for free 24-hour children’s educational programming.  This is just a sample of the many critical services provided because of federal funding.

I’m very proud to learn that Vegas PBS also leverages these federal dollars to raise significantly more from our community — matching $8 of community funds from members, donors and grants for every $1 of federal funding. Moreso, the majority of this funding goes right back into our community through local programming, educational outreach programs, workforce development programs and emergency response infrastructure. It’s a great example of my tax payer dollars having a tremendous return on investment.

Sadly, the current threats could undermine our investment. This is why I am so thankful for your commitment to ensure our public media institutions remain intact. As the only free and independent form of media that still exists locally and across the country, there is immense value in what our local stations provide our community and therefore a lot at stake if those services are compromised.

Again, I express my sincere gratitude for your consistent support for public media.

Sincerely,
