EMAIL SUBJECT LINE: Support for Public Media (Vegas PBS) / Opposition of Rescission Package

MESSAGE:

I write you as a constituent and supporter of Vegas PBS and urge you to work with your colleagues in the Senate to ensure the Rescissions Act of 2025 does not pass. The package narrowly passed the House vote, and I know you can convince your Senate colleagues to vote no.

Public Media stands to lose more than $1 billion in Corporation for Public Broadcasting funding already approved by Congress over the next two years. I understand you specifically have advocated for, supported, and voted to approve these funds; and I am certain you also oppose their rescission.

I thank you for your opposition. But I also compel you to work with your colleagues in the Senate to also oppose it. Encourage them to connect with their state’s local public radio and television stations to better understand what direct impact the loss of funding will have on public safety, early education, and essential local news coverage.

As a supporter of Vegas PBS here in Southern Nevada, I know federal funding is essential for Vegas PBS to continue to deliver public services my community depends on. For example, our rural neighbors who lack internet or cell coverage depend on emergency alerts and news coverage broadcasts over Vegas PBS’s airwaves. Many families who are pinched to afford broadband and streaming services also rely on Vegas PBS for free 24-hour children’s educational programming. Outreach programs that strengthen our kids’ early literacy skills and empower families to extend learning into their homes reach thousands of local families from all backgrounds to supplement and advance public education throughout our region.

I’m also very proud to learn that Vegas PBS also leverages these federal dollars to raise significantly more from our community — matching $8 of community funds from members and donors like me for every $1 of federal funding. Moreso, the majority of this funding goes right back into our community in support of the programs I’ve already outlined. It’s a great example of my tax payer dollars having a tremendous return on investment.

While these critical programs and incredible local ROI are under threat, I know my local Vegas PBS station will endure. Tragically, smaller stations in other states who rely on federal funding for much larger portions of their budget will not.

I implore you to work with your Senate colleagues to ensure public broadcasting continues to reach millions of Americans across the country.

Again, I express my sincere gratitude for your consistent support for public media.

Sincerely,
