Read, View, Do Overview

The Vegas PBS Ready To Learn (RTL) project provides literacy, health, and math-based workshops to schools and families. Vegas PBS RTL focuses approximately 90% of its outreach efforts on Clark County School District (CCSD) Title I schools. New, free books are provided to participants through workshops to help maximize their educational impact.

Vegas PBS RTL provides over 65,000 new books to at-risk families anuually, serving tens of thousands of children. RTL staff also offered over 800 workshops during the past school year. Vegas PBS provided more than a workshop a day, everyday, promoting good health and literacy.

The Vegas PBS Ready To Learn Mission

Ready To Learn (RTL) is a PBS project that helps children ages 0-8 gain the skills — especially literacy — which they need to be successful in school and life. The project employs four tools in executing its mission:

  • PBS television broadcast of quality children's shows and messages
  • Companion websites and mobile apps extending the broadcasts' instructional messages
  • RTL training workshops demonstrating how caregivers can use home media to help children learn outside the school day
  • Distribution of free books, in English and Spanish, to disadvantaged/low income families throughout Southern Nevada to build at-home libraries
