Lee Solonche, Director of Educational Media Services

Vegas PBS Director of Educational Media Services, Lee Solonche, plays an active role in Ready To Learn projects. He provides valuable guidance and insight to the programs, as he has a strong history of technology integration, having been in the field for over 30 years and as Vegas PBS’s Director for 19 years.  Lee meets with staff on an ongoing basis reviewing all facets of the project, monitoring progress and integrating the project with the extensive educational services provided by Vegas PBS.

 Jessica Carroll

Jessica Carroll, RTL Coordinator

A member of the Vegas PBS staff for more than 13 years, Jessica Carroll’s efforts have helped expand the station’s childhood health and education initiatives. As RTL Coordinator, Carroll oversees and implements all Ready To Learn outreach programs and activities, including the coordination of family workshops focusing on literacy, health, and mathematics in the community.  

Jessica earned a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education and two master’s degrees in Technology and Literacy Education from UNLV.  Her passion for literacy has taken her to places such as Shenzhen, China, where she was one of 15 teachers selected to teach readers/writers workshop at the Rainbow Bridge English Summer Camp in 2007.  She is also an active member of the Southern Nevada Writing Project (SNWP), serving as director of SNWP’s Youth Programs.

Sondra Wachtel, RTL Project Facilitator/Literacy Specialist

Sondra has seventeen years of experience in early literacy, family literacy, community program management, education and research aligned with the goals of her position as the literacy specialist for Vegas PBS Ready To Learn program.  Sandi holds a BA in Broadcast Production and a Masters in Literacy and Technology and has served as Master Fitness Trainer in the US Army.  She holds endorsements in elementary teaching, computer literacy, and literacy and as a reading specialist.  She has taught every grade preschool through college and most recently served as a middle school learning strategist before coming to join Vegas PBS.

 T.J. Byers

T.J. Byers, RTL Consultant

T.J. has lived in Las Vegas for the past twelve years and earned her master's degree from UNLV in Health Promotion/Health Education. She is originally from New York, where she obtained her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education. T.J. has taught in brick and mortar settings as well as the virtual world and is currently an online associate professor in the College of Health, Human Services, and Science department at Ashford University.

In her spare time, T.J. enjoys playing the piano, guitar, and drums. As a certified KiddyKeys instructor, she teaches preschoolers to discover music and explore the piano.
