Reaching Out To Families
Every day Big Bird, Elmo, Arthur, Curious George, Daniel Tiger and their friends on Vegas PBS help young children engage with learning like no other TV or cable channel. Parents count on them to bring entertaining, educational lessons directly into the homes of children. Your support allows Vegas PBS to offer a full day of children’s television programming every weekday from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., but the lessons and the reach of these programs go far beyond the power of television.
Families across the country and right here in Southern Nevada face difficult issues every day and struggle with how best to talk about those issues with their children. Whether it’s a tragedy in the news, serious challenges at home like divorce, financial struggles, the loss of a loved one, or day-to-day struggles, parents can turn to the broadcast programs of Vegas PBS and the online resources of PBSparents.org as a trusted source of support.
PBS Parents is filled with information on child development and early learning, but it also serves as a parent’s window to the world of PBS Kids, offering access to educational games, after school activities, and activities that help families deal with some of life’s biggest challenges. PBS Parents provides age-specific insights and discussion starters that range from hands-on activities, to videos, to mobile telephone applications, to online tools, and more.
When tragedies strike communities here in Southern Nevada or far away in Boston or West, Texas, little children are exposed to confusing stories in the news or conversations with their peers. PBS Parents offers tips on talking with kids about scary news and suggests activities to help children express their emotions and understand their feelings by incorporating familiar friends like Curious George, Elmo and Arthur. Other resources are targeted to specific challenges facing military families adjusting to a parent’s disability, or children who are the victims of bullying, or families coping with a child’s physical or learning disabilities. Visit PBSparents.org to explore the range of resources available to help you and your children cope with the specific challenges facing your family.
Your support allows Vegas PBS to offer all children in our community the most trusted place to explore and discover the wonderful world around them, as well as resources for parents to help their children understand and cope with the confusing and emotional issues they can sometimes face. With your help we use all the modern technologies to fulfill these critical missions.
