Vegas PBS Relaunching Outdoor Nevada in Fall 2015/John Burke Will Host Popular Local Production
(Las Vegas) – Vegas PBS is relaunching Outdoor Nevada in fall 2015, bringing to the air an updated version of the popular local production that originally aired from 1995 to 1999.
The program will take viewers on a wide array of adventures—exploring the state’s varied and fascinating natural environment and going on location for hiking, rock climbing, biking, fishing, skiing, and numerous other activities and events. In addition, experts will share discoveries stemming from amazing scientific research about the state’s geography, wildlife and ecological systems. For the first run of the series, Vegas PBS will develop 26 half-hour episodes comprised of three to four segments each.
Highly regarded television host and actor John Burke will host the new Outdoor Nevada program. Burke previously served as a host for programs on the E!, Discovery and AMC networks. His work on AMC’s “Behind the Screen with John Burke” led to two Emmy Awards. As an actor, Burke has appeared in Scandal, True Blood, The Amazing Spiderman, RIPD and other productions.
As Burke crisscrosses Nevada, he will take viewers along for soaring in a hot air balloon, rock climbing in Red Rock Canyon, visiting a ghost town, hiking on the rim trails of the Grand Canyon, riding an ATV over sand dunes, fly fishing, rappelling down a rock face in the Valley of Fire, barreling down Bootleg Canyon on a mountain bike, horseback riding in scenic Eldorado Canyon, taking to the skies in a jet pack, slaloming down Tahoe ski slopes, kayaking the Colorado River, and more.
Outdoor Nevada will delve into the Silver State’s natural history and present-day happenings as experts discuss awe-inspiring discoveries in one of the planet’s most unique and often extreme environments.
“Vegas PBS is pleased about the relaunch of Outdoor Nevada because we know how much viewers enjoyed it in the 1990s. They can still enjoy repeats of the series,” said Vegas PBS General Manager Tom Axtell. “Whether you know the state well or you’re a newcomer, this program will entice you to get outdoors and explore. You may discover that there’s a much broader range of activities available to you here than you previously thought. The scientific component is as captivating as the scenery and the adventures.”
