Vegas PBS Kicks Off Its Annual PBS KIDS Summer Learning Initiative

Learning Goes Beyond the Classroom This Summer with All New Programming, Digital Resources, Partnerships and Community Activities, Available Starting in June

(Las Vegas) – As kids spend time outside of the classroom this summer, Vegas PBS will release all new content and resources to help keep them active and exploring at home and outdoors with some of their favorite characters.

Viewers can expect new episodes from Odd Squad, Nature Cat and Ready Jet Go!, beginning in June. Vegas PBS will also host free educational summertime learning workshops at several local libraries that encourage families to learn together.

“Keeping children engaged in learning over the summer is a priority for us,” said Vegas PBS Ready To Learn Coordinator Jessica Russell. “We are thrilled to offer activities for the whole family that keep their minds active with our summer learning programs.”

As part of our Keeping Kinds Fit initiative, we offer Southern Nevada families a wealth of resources to keep children involved in regular activities through our Youth Activities Resources webpage at VegasPBS.org/kkf/youth-activities. Additionally, free digital resources will be available at pbsparents.org/summer to make learning fun all summer long.

Community Activities

Vegas PBS is partnering with the Las Vegas Clark County Library District, Family to Family Connection, Boys and Girls Clubs, Boulder City Library District and other community partners to hold more than 90 family engagement workshops all summer long starting June 3. Ready To Learn Summer Learning Camps are free family engagement workshops that combine storybooks and hands-on activities that build on the curriculum-based content of PBS KIDS programs.

Martha Speaks Reading Buddies workshops are designed to enrich literacy and vocabulary skills; Odd Squad ‘Be the Agent’ workshops incorporate math, problem-solving and creativity to solve mysteries; and Peg + Cat workshops inspire the youngest children to view math as a fun and handy concept.  All workshops incorporate a read-aloud story and a short clip of PBS KIDS educational television with a new book and activities to take home. Visit VegasPBS.org/rtl/events for dates, times and locations. For more information, visit VegasPBS.org or call 702.799.1010.

Parents can follow Vegas PBS on Twitter and Facebook, and PBS KIDS on Twitter and Facebook for more information on free summer learning resources and special offers from PBS KIDS and its partners. Press materials related to PBS KIDS’ summer learning initiatives are available on PBS PressRoom.
