Most people know Vegas PBS for the informative and inspiring television programs we air on Channel 10 and our secondary channels like Create, Rewind and Jackpot! We also actively host, sponsor or participate in numerous program-related community outreach events that provide face-to-face enrichment extensions of our over-the-air programsor online educational services.

Saturday, April 30, we will host interactive educational booths at two events for which we are a media partner. At the Autism Race for Hope & Fun Walk, we will be providing information about the autism resources for teachers, parents and families available through the Vegas PBS Described and Captioned Media Center library. We will also have a booth at Dia Del Nino at Springs Preserve to promote the new PBS Kids “Explore the Outdoors” television, web and mobile content designed to encourage outdoor exercise through the use of interactive science and craft activities.

The Vegas PBS GOAL website offers thousands of online courses to advance local economic diversification and adult job training. On May 4, for the fifth consecutive year, GOAL will partner with the US Small Business Administration to host the SBA Awards Luncheon honoring our state’s exceptional entrepreneurs and job creators, plus the leading bankers who supported their dreams.

On May 7, Vegas PBS will provide hands-on science and nature activities at the Las Vegas Science and Technology Festival expo at Cashman Center. Our goal is to make more parents and teachers aware of the non-broadcast educational resources available to stimulate their child’s learning through the website.

On May 14 we will be at UNLV to support the CCSD Family and Community Engagement Services (FACES) Family Enrichment Day. Vegas PBS will provide math and literacy-based family workshops.

One of our favorite annual events is the awards ceremony for the winners of our PBS Kids Writers Contest. On May 17, the winning students from each grade level will receive a trophy, framed enlargements of their work, and additional reading and writing resources.

Expanding on our programming on personal financial planning, members of the Vegas PBS Planned Giving Council will host a free seminar on May 23 to help attendees update beneficiary designation paperwork and plan for their financial futures. At the end of the month, members will take an overnight trip to Palm Springs to enjoy a tour of movie star homes and a safari through the Living Desert.

The Vegas PBS program outreach events throughout the year are designed to educate and empower our community and build on the television programming that your member support helps fund. They support our educational mission and seek to build collective community impact through civic partnerships. We hope you’ll join us at the events that are right for you and your families.
